Solo is the most yearned experience in a pilot’s flight life. I’m happy that you did it. I flew 18 hours so far, but, I didn’t make it to solo yet. I practiced 30 touch and goes and am looking for my solo soon. I can fly a good pattern & approach to landing in DA40NG starting from my first pattern flight;the problem is when it comes to round-out, touchdown, power management and height judgment . A high round out & drop in landing, a low round out, excessive sink and bouncing , excessive back pressure to prevent sink and ballooning, are most of my landing mistakes. I made 4 smooth landings on my first pattern flight, but, I couldn’t be consistent after that day and lost my instructor’s trust on me. I know what should I do and how to do it ,I think I have to relax.

I use to fly with my dad when I was younger, considered getting my pilots years ago but never seemed to have the time and/or the money at the same time. At one point I got 2 hours into it and had to stop due to my job situation.

One day I will go at it again.

Well done on your Solo

I am doing mine on my 16th birthday in 2 weeks and i am very nervous, i have taken my Air Law and have done 11 hours and when i go solo i will have done 13 hours. I am very nervous but i cannot wait.

Just done 13 hours, instructor wanting me to take my air law so i can go solo, putting it off….. He’s not leaveing me on my own Just YET!

How did you find your exams, at 55 its taking a lot of drilling in!

I still remember my first solo 8 years ago, now after more than 2.000h of flight time, when I get to fly solo I still sing the same song… (that I will keep as my secret)

Great stuff! I began my circuits after eight hours of tuition yesterday and it was the first time that I felt in control of the aircraft. I did five take offs and landings, the T/O’s weren’t too bad but the landings were poor. It seemed to be the last twenty feet or so that I lose it. Anyway as you have said, practise makes perfect.

You really will remember your first solo forever!

I’m about to start my Flight Instructor rating, having finished the Commercial last December, so I’ll be one one waiting nervously on the ground in six months or so…
